Poweshiek Iowa Development (PowI-80), a 501(c)3 non-profit economic development organization, seeks an experienced, energetic, creative EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR to manage its operations.

The Executive Director plans, organizes, directs, and manages all phases of organizational operations to enhance economic development efforts throughout Poweshiek County (pop. 18,590). Primary responsibilities include:

• Attracting new businesses through the development and implementation of marketing strategies for recruitment of targeted businesses.
  
• Sustaining relationships with existing businesses, agri-businesses and start-ups and enabling their long-term growth.
  
• Expanding entrepreneurship development activities.
  
• Coordinating relationships with state and federal officials, local stakeholders and investors, key business leaders, agricultural producer groups and the general public.
  
• Maintaining regional partnerships to enhance marketing, workforce development and targeted industry outreach.

In addition, the Executive Director coordinates services provided by PowI-80 to the City of Grinnell (pop. 9,323) on a contractual basis, including downtown development, tourism, commercial and community development. The Executive Director also leads two half-time employees, manages fundraising and oversees financial reporting and administration. The Executive Director reports to an eleven-member countywide board of directors.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ yrs. experience in economic development, including a successful record of prospect recruitment and some experience leading an organization. Position requires excellent communication skills, a high energy level, ability to lead staff and diverse boards representing various community interests. Computer literacy is required, as is a bachelor’s degree. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in Poweshiek County.

Poweshiek County is located in east central Iowa, mid-way between Des Moines and Iowa City. Organizational offices are in Grinnell, home to Grinnell College and recently designated one of the three “Coolest Small Towns in America” by Budget Travel magazine.
